Laparoscopic Common Bile Duct (CBD) exploration is performed to remove stones lodged in the bile duct, which can block bile flow and cause pain, jaundice, infection, or pancreatitis. CBD stones may accompany gallbladder stones or occur independently, requiring prompt treatment to prevent serious complications.

This minimally invasive procedure uses a laparoscope and specialized instruments to visualize and remove stones from the bile duct. It may be performed along with gallbladder removal in the same surgical session. The laparoscopic approach reduces postoperative pain, hospital stay, and recovery time compared to open surgery.

Diagnosis involves ultrasound, MRCP, or other imaging to confirm duct obstruction. During surgery, the bile duct is carefully examined, stones are removed, and normal bile flow is restored. In some cases, a temporary drainage tube may be placed to support healing.
