Laparoscopic Hernioplasty

AB Life Care Hospital

Laparoscopic Hernioplasty

Laparoscopic hernioplasty is an advanced surgical procedure used to repair hernias, which occur when an internal organ or tissue protrudes through a weak spot in the abdominal wall. Common types include inguinal, umbilical, and incisional hernias. Symptoms may include swelling, discomfort, or pain that worsens with lifting, coughing, or prolonged standing. If untreated, hernias may enlarge or lead to serious complications such as obstruction or strangulation.

This minimally invasive procedure is performed using small incisions and a laparoscope (camera). A synthetic mesh is placed over the weakened area to strengthen the abdominal wall and prevent recurrence. The laparoscopic technique offers several advantages including reduced postoperative pain, smaller scars, faster recovery, and earlier return to daily activities.

Before surgery, patients undergo detailed evaluation including physical examination and imaging if required. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia with strict safety protocols. Postoperative care focuses on pain control, wound care, and gradual resumption of activity. Most patients can resume routine work within a short period. With skilled surgeons and modern technology, laparoscopic hernioplasty ensures durable repair and improved quality of life.
